Since two of my kids are at school full time and my 3 year old is at preschool, I thought I would have so much more time to do things around the house/run errands. What I am finding out is that I am running my errands while my 3 year old is at preschool and still not getting things done! I also believe that I am spending more money because I now have a little more free time to "run in to the store for 5 minutes and get a few things!" So that got me thinking as to who the heck came up with the term SAHM? (Stay at Home Mom) Please tell me what mom is at home most of the week-unless you have an infant or newborn. I think as the kids get older that you are simply not in your house-running errands, heading to doctors appointments, taking the kids to daytime actitvites, playdates, going to the gym, etc. I know some moms feel that the term SAHM has a negative connotation-those people who are not parents assume that we have all the time in the world to cook, clean, do laundry! I mean that's what I thought until I became a mom myself.
So that made me think that we as moms should come up with a new phrase to describe ourselves. I thought of a new term-House Manager! Let's face it-we really manage and run our households like a small business!. Grocery shopper, gift buyer, appointment setter, homework/project manager, after-school shuttle bus manager, psychologist, bill payer and all around problem solver! The only difference is that we don't get paid and we don't get time off! (Sorry, but going on vacation with your kids is NOT a vacation--you are still taking care of them in a different state!) Haven't you noticed that all household operations "shutdown" when Mom gets sick? Dishes pile up, laundry backs up and sometimes the kids are looking at you for their next meal! That's when I think Moms are the most appreciated--without us how would the kids get from Point A to Point B??
Let me know your thoughts! What do you think of the term House Manager??
